The International Academy of Pathology
Gold Medal Award Recipients
Congratulations to our division members Professor Jane Dahlstrom and Professor Richard Scolyer, who also served as our past board members, on receiving the David F. Hardwick Gold Medal Awards, the highest recognition of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), “awarded for outstanding contributions in International Pathology Education and Research”. Professor Dahlstrom and Professor Scolyer served as the Past Presidents of our division.
The Gold Medal Award Committee nominated Professor Jane Dahlstrom (who happens to be the first female recipient in Australia to receive this Award) and Professor Richard Scolyer as recipients of the David F. Hardwick Gold Medal of the IAP along with Dr Martin Hale from the South African division at the Cancun International Council Meeting this year.
It is a great honour for our division members to have received this Award, which represents the highest distinction of the Academy.
The David F. Hardwick Gold Medal is “Awarded for outstanding contributions in International Pathology Education and Research”. The Gold Medal Nominating Committee nominates candidates to be awarded at each biennial International Congress of the IAP. The Award is for members of the Academy demonstrating leadership by creating and fostering Academy activities that are of international significance. Achievements in Pathology Education and Research or Pathology Practice are identified as eligible for recognition to capture the full breadth of such activities. Some awardees over the past decades have provided (or presided over) transformational changes in the Academy such as the transition from IAMM (International Association of Medical Museums) to IAP while others have been enquiring educators, renowned researchers, and leading figures in Diagnostic Pathology Internationally. All have in common the singular and definitive attribute of international leadership.
